- work experience to assist with the set up and dismantling of equipment in return for observing classes, thus suitable for those seeking observational learning in the world of behavioural dog training with minimal hands-on contact.
- work experience to become a Trainee Assistant Instructor at Reality Dog Training. Although no formal experience is required for this role, a natural connection with dogs is essential, as are basic handling skills, the ability to quickly learn demonstrated techniques* which can then be presented to class members on a 1:1 and small group basis, the respect to know one’s limits, to comply with professional code of conduct and to consistently refer all queries for advice to the Principal Instructor. Helping to set up and clear away is also a requirement as is familiarity with basic dog law and fundamentals of the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme.
Fancy a Career with Dogs?
Our teaching is combined with play and the building of an emotional bond between dog and owner. With emphasis on control, (walking nicely on lead, recalling to owner and not jumping up), plus good manners, Classes are centred around the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme.
There are 2 Opportunities Available…
1. work experience to assist with the set up and dismantling of equipment in return for observing classes, thus suitable for those seeking observational learning in the world of behavioural dog training with minimal hands-on contact. All queries from members or general public are to be referred to the Principal Instructor.
2. work experience to become a Trainee Assistant Instructor at Reality Dog Training. Although no formal experience is required for this role, a natural connection with dogs is essential, as are basic handling skills, the ability to quickly learn demonstrated techniques which can then be presented to class members on a 1:1 and small group basis, the respect to know one’s limits, to comply with professional code of conduct and to consistently refer all queries for advice to the Principal Instructor. Your Commitment is Rewarded...
As well as gaining valuable knowledge, understanding and experience in the field of behavioural training, to help better the relationships between you and your own dogs, your long-term commitment is rewarded by membership to the PDTI and, over time, contribution to PDTI course fees. Achievement of their recognised awards is greatly encouraged and indeed necessary, in order to qualify as a Pet Dog Training Instructor.
There are also opportunities for paid referrals as and when techniques are consistently demonstrated to professional standards utilising relationship-centred behavioural centred training methods that fit with the ethos of Rachel Worley and the CAWC Code of Practice. You will be required to have the relevant insurances, licences and permits to qualify for referrals of services such as walking, boarding, sitting and training and to be a Signatory to the Registration Council for Dog Training & Behavioural Practitioners (RCDTBP).
What You Can Do Now...
1. Drop me an email explaining which of the 2 roles interest you and why. Volunteer opportunities are limited on account of the investment of time, money, education and ongoing support so it would be great to understand what it is you feel you can contribute to Reality Dog Training and our community of clients.
2. Forward your CV of experience with dogs, even if not on a professional basis and include any reading list or equivalent plus experience with dogs of your own or those belonging to other people.
3. Observe some training sessions to determine if you would like to come on board.
4. If interested in the Trainee Assistant Instructor role, you will be required to attend with your own dog or a stooge, to take part in classes so that your general handling technique can be seen. You will have the opportunity to progress through the KCGCDS FREE OF CHARGE in return for your help. As can be appreciated, it is not reasonable to help others with the training of their dog if it cannot be seen that you have the ability to train dogs of your own. Therefore, progression through all levels of the scheme are encouraged. The dog accompanying you to class must be non-reactive around people and other dogs and be able to settle within a crate.
